Top Gear’s The Stig – Finally Revealed – Or Is He?

Well, it’s been a while now, and in that while many people’s names have been bandied about as to who The Stig really is. You’ll know him (or it) from the excellent TV programme Top Gear. It’s the driver that has astounded people time after time with his amazing skill at car control, speed and being able to wrestle any machine into doing his will.

The mystery surrounding his identity has always been a big debate amongst many a car enthusiast.

However, Michael Schumacher was finally revealed on Top Gear on Sunday the 21st June and I don’t think anyone was expecting that at all!

I does make sense to a certain degree. The man, like his character The Stig, is almost robot-like in his approach to driving. Cool, calculating and born to win. His lap times in Formula One racing were always, and almost freakishly, consistent to the highest of high standards.

There are few drivers in the world that can drive a car as well and as controlled as Schumacher.

However, there are doubts as to whether he really is The Stig.

In a programme made for a Dutch TV station, the real Stig is actually interviewed, and his voice sounds nothing like Schumachers.

Further ‘evidence’ suggests that it could be Ben Collins, a former racing driver who, among many achievements, has raced at Le Mans and in the FIA GT Series with Ascari. In several interviews with the ‘real’ Stig, Collins’ voice is heard and matches interviews with him from other periods.

A BBC spokesperson wouldn’t confirm whether it was the real Stig or not and Jeremy Clarkson also cast doubt on it when he said at the end of the programme, “I don’t think that Schumacher is The Stig…now that is a bombshell”.

It’s not Schumacher. The Stig was less robotic as he walked into the room compared to normal.
